Personal Counselling

Private Counselling for Adults, Young People and Children

Gettin in touch is the hardest part.

My aim, from the very first conversation, is to help you feel comfortable, understood and at ease.

Counselling offers the opportunity to think more clearly about what you are experiencing, why certain patterns repeat, and how you want to move forward.

People come to counselling for many different reasons. Sometimes something has happened that has brought things to a head. Sometimes it is something difficult to process or come to terms with. Sometimes it is something from the past that still feels unresolved, or an anxiety or uncertainty about the future. Often it is a combination of things. What matters is not the reason itself, but that you feel ready to explore it.

I have worked with adults, young people and children in private practice for almost 20 years. I also lead Snowford Grange’s school-based counselling service, supporting schools, families and young people across the region.

Adults.

Sometimes thinking harder is not the answer.

The more we try to work things out alone, the more stuck we can feel. Talking things through with an experienced professional can make all the difference.

I work across a broad range of emotional and psychological difficulties, helping people explore patterns, relationships, stress, anxiety, identity, loss, self-esteem and periods of feeling stuck or overwhelmed, and whatever else you bring.

The aim is not simply to cope, but to develop greater clarity, perspective and understanding of yourself and the way you respond to life’s challenges.

Most people leave counselling with a stronger sense of themselves and a more balanced perspective on what they are facing.

Young People.

The years between adolescence and early adulthood are among the most formative periods of a person’s life.

They are often shaped by significant emotional, social and developmental milestones, identity, friendships, relationships, independence, education, pressure, belonging and uncertainty about the future.

How supported a young person feels during this stage can have a lasting impact on confidence, emotional wellbeing and the way they come to see themselves and the world around them.

I have extensive experience working with young people and understand that counselling is not always something they immediately want to engage with.

Part of the role is creating a space that feels safe, genuine and worthwhile, somewhere they can talk honestly, feel understood and gradually work things through at their own pace.

Children.

With younger children, counselling is adapted to suit the age and developmental stage of the child. It is a gentle process, always led by the pace of the child.

Sessions are often creative and play-based, helping children express feelings and experiences in ways that feel natural and manageable to them.

The most important thing is that a child feels safe, comfortable and accepted. From that foundation, children are often able to begin making sense of difficult feelings and experiences with greater ease.
